Middlebury, Indiana
Project Detail Information
The Middlebury segment of the Pumpkinvine Nature Trail developed a section of abandoned rail corridor into a greenway and trail for walking, jogging, biking, rollerblading and nature study. This segment forms one part of the proposed 16.5 mile Pumpkinvine Nature Trail system that will link Goshen, Middlebury and Shipshewana, Indiana.
The Middlebury segment forms connections to an existing bike trail, community streets, sidewalks, and Kinder’s World Fair Garden Park. The project involved retrofitting a 160' wood trestle bridge that stretches across the Little Elkhart River and adding interpretive signage to help explain the history of the railroad of Middlebury. The overall conceptual design addressed trail amenities and conveniently located parking.
Lehman & Lehman lead the project team of surveyors and engineers through the design and project construction. Lehman & Lehman also provided assistance in the grant application process.
