Mishawaka, Indiana
Project Detail Information
School City of Mishawaka commissioned Lehman & Lehman, Inc. to study the sites of their nine schools and create a comprehensive master plan for their future development. The master plan included the conversion of high maintenance landscapes to more environmentally friendly, low maintenance landscapes and the creation of outdoor classrooms, as well as the design of thematic playgrounds, community walking paths, student sculpture gardens and boundary markers.
The concepts developed shared many characteristics and had the potential to create: a more flexible learning environment with greater educational options, a safer school where vandalism and accidents are less likely, a closer connection to the surrounding community, and long term environmental, energy and maintenance savings.
The comprehensive master plan provides School City of Mishawaka a working document that will allow for the implementation of design components and the ability to plan for future site amenities when new schools are constructed.
